How many times have you been asked whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert? Have you ever answered saying you’re someone in the middle? If you have, chances are, you’re an ambivert! I am one and I know many other people who are one too.
Some people probably did not know that such a word existed (neither did my parents:) which is why I’m going to write about what it's like to be an ambivert.
Ambiverts aren’t as shy as in introvert but at the same time, not as outgoing as extroverts. We like being around other people but we sometimes also need our own personal space to do things we enjoy. For teenagers especially, the words ‘personal space’ has a whole new level of meaning.
I personally think I’ve taken this gene from my mom since my dad is more on the introvert side. While my first impression might state me being an introvert, my best friends would beg to differ. Ambiverts can be completely different in front of strangers and in front of friends. It’s like me having dual personalities, Meera Joshi and Jeera Moshi!
We absolutely love to meet new people but sometimes it can be overwhelming. Meeting someone who has the same interests as us is very exciting and enjoyable. But sometimes meeting too many people can be tiring. I know, ambiverts are confusing but hey, who isn’t?
To sum it up, a mix of Rajesh Koothrappali and Penny (from The Big Bang Theory) would be the perfect example of an ambivert!
So fascinating to see you write about this. Especially because just one week back I was discussing this with a friend! Turns out I am an ambivert too! :) Keep on writing! <3
